How do I cite in APA?

Answer

Disciplines within the Social Sciences typically use the Publication Manual of the American Psychological Association (APA) as the preferred style of citation.

The basic format for an APA Journal Article citation:

AuthorLastName, FirstNameInitial. (Year). Title of article. Title of Journal, Volume(Issue), Pages.

Retrieved from URL

Note: The Journal Title, Volume, & Issue are italicized. Only the first word of the Article Title is capitalized. Every line after the first line should be indented. If available, use the DOI instead of the URL.

The basic format for In-Text References:

There are several ways to correctly use an in-text reference, but it must include the author's last name and the year of publication -  (AuthorLastName, Year).

To learn more about how to cite using APA style, the library suggests using the Purdue OWL site and APA Style Blog (see links below).
